Darina Allen is the queen of Irish food. She champions Irish producers, fights for political issues that will affect the production of Irish food, is an ambassador for Irish food abroad and gives so much time to teach and educate people about food... Not to mention just a lovely human being. We're fans.

That's why we're absolutely delighted to be giving away two copies of her latest cookbook – Simply Delicious: The Classic Collection – behind today's door of our advent calendar!

Darina’s RTÉ show was first aired on Monday 13th March 1989. Entitled Simply
Delicious, it showcased the tried and tested Ballymaloe favourites and demonstrated
just how easy it was to make simple and delicious food with beautiful fresh local
produce. The accompanying book went on to make Irish publishing history, topping the
bestseller list for many months and selling more copies than any previously published
cookbook in Ireland. Darina continued to write a further six Simply Delicious books to
accompany the series and has published a grand total of 18 books so far and counting.

Now for the first time, 100 classic recipes from Simply Delicious 1 and 2 and Simply
Delicious Vegetables have been collected together in this timeless cookbook. Choosing the recipes proved a difficult task, with so many having stood the test of time to become
perennial favourites, while some have been tweaked over the years or added more
contemporary garnishes or complementary flavours and spices.

Divided into Soups and Starters, Meat, Poultry, Fish, Vegetarian, Salads, and Desserts, the
dishes range from firm winter favourites like Leek & Potato Soup, Ballymaloe Irish Stew,
and Ballycotton Fish Pie, to Roast Red Pepper, Lentil and Goat’s Cheese Salad, Ballymaloe
Chicken Liver Pâté and Caramel Mousse with Praline.

Summing up the food that Darina loves to cook, this classic collection of time-honoured
favourites are guaranteed to be relished and enjoyed for at least another 30 years.
