We love dumplings, but where serves up the best?
Dumplings are an important dish for Chinese New Year as the preparation symbolises the exchange between the old and new year. Dumplings, which are usually steamed or fried, consist of soft dough filled with a tasty morsel of pork, prawn or chicken.
We love the explosion of flavour that you get with dumplings, so we decided to list some of our favourite spots to find them in Dublin. While we adore the dumplings from Lee's Charming Noodles and Korean Hailan (which technically serves Korean dumplings, but we love them anyway!), we've been to these five locations more recently so check them out below to find out where to get your dumpling fix in Dublin.
M&L Szechuan Chinese -13/14 Cathedral Street, North City
Located just of O’Connell Street, M&L is a personal favourite ours. This no-frills restaurant offers authentic Chinese dishes and friendly staff that will guide you through the menu, so it's a definite it’s a must-visit this Chinese New Year. We love the steamed pork dumplings, which are packed with flavour. M&L is a real hidden gem on the Northside of Dublin, so head along soon before the secret gets out!

Lucky Tortoise Dumpling Company - 8 Aungier Street
Lucky Tortoise first appeared in The Hill Pub in Ranelagh as a pop up on Sundays, before running a pop-up stall in Eatyard, Portobello. Now Lucky Tortoise has its own restaurant on Aungier Street where it's becoming very well-known for tasty food: Their Pork Siu Mei and Pork and Chive Dumplings are up there with the best. Dim Sum at Lucky Tortoise is made completely from scratch, which is a very challenging task that takes years to master. The owners try to use locally sourced ingredients such as Dublin Bay Prawns, as well as authentic ingredients from Asia. Lucky Tortoise is a super spot for a evening meal, plus it's exceptionally good value.
China Sichuan- Ballymoss Road, Sandyford
Located just a 20-minute Luas ride from the city centre in Sandyford, China Sichuan is definitely worth the journey. Owner Kevin Hui brings a modern twist to authentic Sichuan dishes in a stunningly designed room. The ‘Hon Yu Guozi’ poached chicken wontons in chili broth with pan-fried ‘Waltip’ dumplings filled with pork and chicken are mouth-wateringly good.
Old Town Chinese Restaurant- 123 Capel Street
Old Town is a classic Sichuan restaurant on Capel Street known for its exceptional flavours. The kitchen staff have spent over 20 years mastering the art of traditional Sichuan cuisine. Homemade Northern China-style dumplings are a firm favourite on the menu, so you know you're in for a good feed when you visit.

Bowls by Kwanghi Chan- 56 Marlborough Street, Rotunda
Owned by Michelin-trained chef Kwanghi Chan, who was born in Hong Kong but raised in Donegal, Bowls is one of the buzziest restaurants in Dublin right now. Chan ensures that only the freshest ingredients are used, with a focus on serving locally sourced produce wherever possible and the traditional pork and chive dumpling pot stickers are even served with Chan's own soy sauce. When reading the menu at Bowls it is hard to find something you wouldn't want to try – everything sounds so good. Located just off Parnell Street, Bowls is a refreshing addition to the Northside.
