For Pancake Tuesday, or the weekend ahead, here are some of our favourite pancake recipes, along with delicious sweet and savoury toppings to go with them. Enjoy!
These American-style pancakes are thicker than crêpes, but they should have a light and fluffy texture. The trick is to not overbeat the mixture. These are lovely served with either a berry compote – see our recipe for making one at home below – and crème fraîche, or the classic maple syrup and bacon combination.
Buckwheat pancakes may not look as good, but they’re a healthy alternative as well as being gluten-free. Buckwheat is actually a seed of a plant related to rhubarb. As well as being full of health-giving properties, it makes for deliciously light and thin pancakes with a nutty flavour.
This is a classic recipe for the thin, French-style pancakes. Using half-milk and half-water allows for a light and thin batter.
Pancakes are always a welcome addition to the breakfast table, even more so on a chilly November morning. Let the batter sit for a little while before cooking and you will have fluffier, lighter pancakes.
Pancake topping ideas:
Try this delicious berry compote for a great fruity addition to your pancakes that is alsotart so adds a sharp freshness, or our spiced apple and caramel sauce for a lush dessert-style filling, just add ice cream! If you want a savoury option, you could try our smoked salmon and avocado topping idea, classic flavours mixed together for a perfect brunch.
