No. Three Old Bar & Restaurant in Collon, County Louth won the Readers' Choice Award at the 2019 FOOD AND WINE Awards in association with Rémy Martin.

This year the Readers' Choice Awards is all about you, our readers. We asked you to tell us about the food spots you love, recommend to friends, and visit time and again. It was the only award that not judged by our national culinary panel on judging day and the shortlist was crafted from the hundreds of nominations we received for locations all around the country.

As this award is voted for by the public, it really is a special honour for any business to receive and previous winners include Vermillion in Dublin (2015 and 2016), Kin Khao Thai in Athlone (2014) and the much-missed Campo de Fiori in Wicklow (2013). We asked you to vote again to tell us which nomination you wanted to come out on top and again we received thousands of votes, with No. Three Old Bar & Restaurant in Collon taking the top prize.

Opened in 2016 by mother-son duo, Martina and Wayne Fitzpatrick, No. Three Old Bar & Restaurant is known for its delicious food and great atmosphere. With local ingredients at centre stage, a stellar cocktail menu and fantastic staff, this spot is loved by locals and visitors alike. The menus are packed with classic favourites, like fillet steak and seafood bisque, as well as different themed dishes, during events like Eatalian Wednesday and tapas evenings.

We were so excited to see such a well-loved local favourite take home the title at this year's award and, from the reaction of the guests in the room during the ceremony, we weren't the only ones! Here, we speak to Martina about the restaurant's big win.

"It was absolutely unbelievable to win, we really weren't expecting it. When you're not expecting it, it's such a nice extra bonus. We're so proud to think that people came out and voted us, it really meant so much to us to know it came from the public. Our customers did it for us without us knowing and that's amazing. It’s fantastic to think that people from all over can read about our restaurant, we’re so honoured to be part of the FOOD AND WINE Awards. The recognition we’re getting now is unreal, it’s blown us away. We’ve won other awards, but never felt as proud. It's amazing to have our name associated with FOOD AND WINE and to know that people from all over the world can read about us now.

Over the next year, we're planning on expanding our wine offerings and relaunching our wine menu with more European wines. As well as improving on what we're already doing, we're going to concentrate on fresh ingredients and adding a lot more vegan options so that each person that comes in can sit and eat in the same place as everyone else."
