Dungarvan restaurant The Tannery is launching First Thursdays, a new dining event on the first Thursday of every month.
Restaurant, townhouse and cookery school, The Tannery in Dungarvan is among the culinary destinations that we love coming back to. Since opening in 1997, Paul and Máire Flynn have created one of the most original and welcoming experiences in Ireland. With a menu focusing on local produce, warm decor and friendly staff, The Tannery boasts this unique atmosphere that makes you feel at home, even on the first visit.
In case we needed another reason to drop in, Máire and Paul Flynn have decided to introduce a new regular event on their calendar. From Thursday, October 3rd, guests can attend First Thursdays, a new, one night only set menu changing every month.
The inaugural First Thursday menu will showcase the chef’s generous, flavour-driven food, featuring lobster arancini, wild mushrooms on toast, a local seafood stew with roasted garlic cream, warm leek and potato salad. For dessert, guests will enjoy a poached pear with bay leaf syrup, soft cream and chocolate crumble, followed by a taste of cheese.
“We decided to introduce these First Thursdays dinners to keep things fresh for both ourselves and our guests”, Paul Flynn explains to us. “This style of menu is one I am very interested in at the moment, getting away from the formality of à la carte, allowing us to focus on the best of ingredients and scale everything down a little. It may be a bit more experimental than usual - I will see what flight my mind takes!”
On this occasion, the set menu will be the only option available in the restaurant, located upstairs in The Tannery. The wine bar downstairs will remain open with the same offer as usual.
To allow for guests who might be coming from further afield to make it to Dungarvan for this one night only special menu, the last orders will be taken at 8.30pm. “We are looking to attract our own local customers offering them a different Tannery experience, and also those who are willing to travel and stay overnight”, Paul adds.
The menu is priced €55 per person, it is available for guests who stay overnight in The Tannery’s Townhouse including full breakfast the following morning for €120 per person sharing, or €100 for single occupancy.
