If you want to show your Mum how much you care from a distance then you can't go wrong with a Mother's Day meal kit.
Mother’s Day is just around the corner (March 14, FYI) but, unfortunately, this year it's going to be a little different. Just like Christmas, Easter, birthdays and well, weekends in general - your usual plans to celebrate the most important woman in your life are going to have to be put on pause thanks to the nationwide lockdown.
Instead of whisking your mum away to a luxurious spa or indulging in an afternoon spent sipping on prosecco and tea and eating delicate pastries and desserts, this Mother's Day, however, things are a little more complicated. Restaurants, pubs and non-essential shops will still be shut, indoor socialising will still be banned and people will still be advised to 'stay at home' in all but exceptional circumstances. What's more, many of us won't even be able to see our mums this Mother's Day – let alone treating them to a nice meal.
But just because you can't be with your mum on March 14, you can still show how much you care from a distance. From setting up a Zoom call with your mum and all of your siblings to sending her a bunch of flowers, there's plenty of things you can do this year to make her feel special.
One such way is by ordering a meal-kit. It may not be the same as a roast dinner together or going out for lunch, but it's sure to put a smile on her face and show her just how much she means to you. Restaurant kits, hampers and meal kits have been incredibly popular over lockdown, and with their popularity showing no signs of waning, Oliveto at Haddington House in Dún Laoghaire has put together what we deem to be the ultimate Mother's Day feast.

The meal-kit starts off with a starter of Oliveto Antipasto: Oliveto sourdough and house butter, olives and almonds, whipped cod roe, pistachio and nettle pesto, smoked beetroot relish, house pickles and brines, McNally Farm crudités selection, house-cured striploin bresaola and Carlow Farm nettle Gouda. For the main course, your mum will be treated to a delicious glazed lamb shoulder with grilled broccoli, roasted barley, fregola and mint sour cream and espelette pepper thyme and garlic potato terrine. For non-meat-eating mums, there's a vegetarian main of sweet potato and St Tola tart. Finishing on an extra-sweet note, dessert is vanilla and clotted cream pannacotta with whipped raspberry ganache, caramelised white chocolate feuilletine.
There are three meal-kit options to choose from. Priced at €70 for two sharing, the Marvellous Mum option features the aforementioned menu. But if you want to make your mum feel extra special, there's a 'Queen of Mums' option which also features the menu above plus cocktails for two and a selected bottle of red or white wine for €100 for two sharing. And for those with little mouths to feed, Oliveto have created a Children's menu to go alongside the Mother's Day meal kits so the whole family can celebrate together. Priced at €15 per child, the kid's meal-kit features garlic dough balls to start, a choice of pizza or pasta and a chocolate mousse for dessert.
Orders are available for collection and can be placed from today until March 11 – or until sold out which based on the overwhelming success of Oliveto's Valentine's Day meal kit is sure to happen again. Be sure to pre-order a time slot for collection when ordering to avoid disappointment.
To order for collection call Oliveto on 01 280 0011 or email [email protected] before 9 pm Thursday March 11.
