It's always good to buy Irish where you can but this year it's more important than ever to opt for Irish brands as you stock up on gifts and food and drink essentials for Christmas.
SuperValu has announced a campaign worth €500,000 aimed at encouraging us to do that very thing. As well as supporting local businesses and the wider economy, you’ll be picking up some excellent fare as there’s no shortage of great producers - and products - all over the island.
Every week there will be a Monday Market takeover of the SuperValu Instagram to highlight Irish businesses, while stores will be offering a wide range of Irish products. They include the SuperValu Signature Tastes Mini Bites range which is made by the Carleton Cake Company Ltd. in Co Cavan. Flavours include White Chocolate & Raspberry and Chocolate Brownie (below) and they’re two for €6 until 30 December.
Isle of Crackers from Wexford (main picture) produces a range of handmade crackers that will work well with the SuperValu Signature Tastes Irish Cheese Selection which lands in-store on 6 December. Priced at €12.99, it features an array of Irish farmhouse cheeses including Cashel Blue and Allenwood Smoked Cheddar.
SuperValu is also working with Guaranteed Irish on its new initiate, GuaranteedIrishGifts.ie - a platform which allows people to shop Irish.
“We are absolutely delighted to be included in SuperValu’s Christmas campaign this year. Their help and support will benefit so many businesses right across the country that are struggling during these difficult times," says Brid O’Connell, CEO of Guaranteed Irish. "It may be a surprise to people, but for every €100 spent in the community, this is worth €500 to the economy because of the local multiplier effect, so making the conscious decision to shop local has huge benefits.”
