The Killarney Brewing & Distilling Company has just launched an 8-year-old blended whiskey, finished in small-batch imperial stout casks.
The whiskey is blended, finished, bottled and labelled in Killarney and to complement it, Killarney Brewing has created an imperial stout, matured in the same whiskey casks.
This limited-edition pairing, of which only 1092 bottles have been produced, is in celebration of the year the famed Annals of Inisfallen were released. The Annals, complied by the monks of Innisfallen, Killarney chronicle the history of medieval Ireland.
Speaking about the launch, Barry Spellman, General Manager at Killarney Brewing said, “This project has been years in the making and it’s a joy to finally launch our first Killarney Irish whiskey and showcase our innovation with this limited release collaboration between the new brewery and distillery.”
There are busy days ahead for the company, which is in the process of building a new brewery as well as a malt and grain distillery following a €24 million investment. When it's finished the 62,000 sq ft facility will be Ireland’s largest independently owned and co-located distillery, brewery and visitor experience.
This limited-edition whiskey comes in a handcrafted wooden box and is sold together with the stout. Priced at €100, it’s available from local Kerry outlets and from irishmalts.com.
