Michelin-starred chef Damien Grey will be the subject of exciting new documentary Chasing Stars, which is set to air on RTÉ One tonight.

The documentary will showcase the culinary journey that Damien underwent earlier this year as he closed the doors on Heron and Grey and opened Liath, beginning a new chapter in his career.

Owned by Andrew Heron and Damien Grey, Heron and Grey, which formerly resided in Blackrock Market in Dublin, opened three years ago to much acclaim from critics and visitors alike. The Michelin inspectors quickly awarded the beloved restaurant a star, which it held until January this year.

Late last year, Andrew Heron announced that he and Damien were set to amicably part ways and the Irish food scene was immediately aflutter. What did this mean for Heron and Grey? Would Dublin lose one of its newest gems?

Fortunately, Damien was quick to alleviate our worries, stating that he would become the sole owner of the restaurant, reinventing it as Liath, which means grey in Irish. However, when a restaurant undergoes a change in ownership, it usually loses its Michelin star, which meant Damien was determined to gain his back within six short months.

Chasing Stars

The documentary opens on January 26th 2019, the day that Andrew and Damien parted ways. Throughout the episode, we will see Damien redesign the restaurant and the menu, highlighting local Irish cuisine before venturing around the world to visit culinary heroes like Matt Orlando, Grant Achatz and Diana Dávila. The episode also shows Damien venturing around Ireland to visit suppliers and producers, spending time with each to learn more about their passion for food.

The show ends with Damien journeying to London for the 2020 Great Britain and Ireland Michelin revelation, where he learns his fate. Of course, this all took place several months ago, so we know that Damien did indeed retain his star in a bumper year for Irish restaurants. The beauty in this show isn't the Michelin star race, it is seeing the passion and dedication that Damien puts in behind the scenes to elevate himself and his team to legendary status.

Chasing Stars will air tonight Thursday, November 28th at 10.15pm on RTÉ One.
