There are few things here at FOOD&WINE that get us more excited than wine and cheese. So when we heard from the team behind Meet Me in the Morning that they were opening Loose Canon Cheese & Wine on Drury Street, we couldn't wait to share the good news.
Inspired by artisan cheese shops around the world but equally influenced by the casual bodegas of Barcelona, Loose Canon Cheese & Wine has a firm focus on natural wines and exceptional cheese, served in a chic space at bespoke mahogany and marble counters, handmade by co-owner Brian O’Caoimh.
From the accomplished team behind café Meet Me in the Morning and its next door little sister, Reference Coffee, Loose Canon will open daily from 10.30 a.m. retailing expertly curated cheese and wines along with a selection of toasted cheese sandwiches at lunchtime.
On six evenings a week there will be a selection of cheeseboards, Irish charcuterie from Gubbeen, The Wooded Pig and Broughgammon Farm to enjoy, as well as the opportunity to discover some interesting wines by the glass, or to share a bottle from the shelves with a small corkage fee
The partners behind this latest venture, Brian O’Caoimh and Kevin Powell, are ardent fans of both natural wine and great cheese. Kevin worked as a cheesemaker with Corleggy Cheeses for three years and Brian founded the Coutume natural wine pop-up during his time as manager of the renowned Parisian café on the Left Bank’s rue de Babylone.
With a wide range of wonderful cheese – at least 60% of which will be Irish at any given time – and 50 or so natural wines, the selection will rotate seasonally and change often, so there’ll always be something new to discover.
Natural wines are already a staple at many of the world’s most acclaimed restaurants, introduced to be more in step with a food culture that values all things local, artisan, authentic and ethically produced.
Loose Canon Cheese & Wine at 29 Drury Street is now open for business!
