One of Galway’s oldest pork butchers, Herterich’s Pork Butchers, have brought home the bacon (quite literally!), at the Associated Craft Butchers of Ireland Regional Sausage & Pudding Competition 2018.
Herterich’s Pork Butchers on Lombard Street won gold in the Speciality Sausage Category for their Sweet Italian, as well as best Lifestyle Sausage for their Laos Sausage.
Their more unusual product also took home an award, with their Morcilla Spanish Black Pudding winning the Pudding Innovation Category.
Herterich’s Pork Butchers opened their doors in 1940, and have since become a stalwart of Galway, with so many of Galway’s leading restaurants - including Dela, Kai, Handsome Burger, Huntsmann, Sheridans, Front Door, Biteclub, The Universal and Caribou - using their pork for all dishes from breakfast, brunch, lunch and dinner.
John Heterich of Heterich’s Butchers said: “We are thrilled, literally we absolutely love what we do and have been delighted how well our customers have reacted to our new products, we’re lucky we really do have the best customers. It is just really great to be recognised by such a prestigious organisation and one we are really delighted to be apart of. All the team should be proud of the hard work and creativity gone into this, it’s a family business and all the staff are like family in here.
“Now we are going up against the rest of Ireland and are really hopeful that we can showcase to Ireland, the passion, the tradition and the craft of what we do here in the west.”
