Buy The Right Barbecue

The most important thing you need for your barbecue is the right type of grill with a lid. The ‘Weber Way of Barbecuing’ is all about lid-down cooking, which helps to trap flavour and keep the temperature constant, so it’s really important to ensure that you have a lid. 

Choosing a barbecue can be difficult – size and space are major concerns – but for us, the most important thing to consider is the cooking method. Are you comfortable cooking over charcoal? Or would you rather use a gas-powered barbecue? While we love using charcoal, to create the perfect summer dining experience it’s best to make sure you go for whichever cooking method suits you best.

Update Your Tool Kit

Barbecuing can be very difficult when you don’t have the right equipment to cook with; have you ever tried to flip a burger over a barbecue? It’s so hot that you run the risk of dropping your gorgeous food if you don’t have help, which is why tongs and a decent fish slice are so important. There’s no point in creating the perfect barbecued meal only to lose half your food into the grill! 

A mistake that a lot of people make when barbecuing is that they panic about whether or not their food is cooked and end up finishing it off in the oven. Often, this results in dry, overcooked meat that doesn’t really taste good. The best way to ensure your food is thoroughly cooked is to invest in a temperature probe, which allows you to check the core temperature of your food, alleviating any worries about over- or undercooking. 

Make Sure You Marinade

Have you ever skipped marinading food before you barbecue it? We’re here to tell you that this is one of the most important steps in creating the perfect barbecue, so we recommend you adopt the practice during your next event. Marinading food helps to lock in lots of flavours while helping meat to stay juicy and tender. It’s best to try marinade food overnight, if possible, and save any leftovers to baste the meat as you cook it, which will add heaps of extra flavour. 

Marinades are super easy to whip up and usually only require around five ingredients. Make sure to add some acid to your marinade, like vinegar, citrus or wine, as this will help to tenderise the meat even further, as well as adding some extra moisture. One of our favourite marinades uses garlic, ginger, spring onions, soy sauce and olive oil – simply whisk together until you’re happy with the quantity and flavour then you’re ready to go.
