At some point, our world will return to normal - even if it is a new normal. But where will we go for our first night out?
We asked some well-known names in the Irish food and drinks industry to tell us what they're planning when restrictions are lifted. Today, we spoke to Niall Kerins, general manager at The Ice House Hotel in Mayo:
"When we do move out of these strange times and things return to some normality, we will all be looking forward to getting out and meeting people. I will be looking forward to heading to our local Harrison's Bar in Ballina for a few Friday night drinks with friends to enjoy the atmosphere and company.
Being an adopted native to the beautiful county of Mayo, I will be looking forward to heading home to the banner county of Clare to meet all my family that I haven’t seen in quite some time. It will be great to see everyone, for grandparents to see their grandkids again and to enjoy all the hugs and kisses they have been missing.

We will be sure to pop into Dermot and his crew in Henry's Bistro in Ennis and enjoy all his fine local produce. We love the fish cakes here and the tiger prawn salad which will surely be ordered. Mains will definitely involve a rib-eye steak, salmon and chorizo risotto and plenty of shared sides including their delicious homemade chips.
We certainly won’t pass on dessert and Henry’s chocolate cake will be number one on the list. We'll enjoy it all with a bottle of wine or two and enjoy the great service from Dermot and his gang. Hopefully this will be a reality very soon for us all!"
The Ice House is set to reopen on June 29th, so if you need a staycation destination you can make reservations now.
