Make the most of the sunshine with one of these in your hand

There are few things nicer than enjoying a drink in the sun and it's a great way to conjure up some holiday feelings, wherever you may be.

While warm weather classics, such as rosé or a glass of Prosecco are perennial favourites, there is a whole array of options that fit the bill.

From whiskey cocktails in a can to the summer’s new favourite, the hard seltzer we’ve rounded up some top tipples to enjoy in the sunshine.

White Claw Hard Seltzer, €3.50

Arguably the one that started this summer’s seltzer craze, White Claw Hard Seltzer made its way to Ireland back in May. Available in three flavours (Raspberry, Black Cherry and Natural Lime), White Claw is made with sparkling water, triple distilled spirit and natural fruit flavours.  (4.5% ABV)

Invivo X, Sarah Jessica Parker Rosé, €18

Actress Sarah Jessica Parker teamed up again with the founders of Invivo and a family winery in Provençe to create her rosé. Parker’s Invivo x SJP Sauvignon Blanc won a gold medal at the Concurs Mondial du Sauvignon Blanc Competition 2020 so you’re in good hands here.

Castellore Organico Organic Prosecco, €13.99

If a glass of Prosecco is more your thing, this pick from Aldi has just won yet another award. Following its Silver wins at the Global Prosecco Masters 2020 and at the Irish Quality Food & Drink Awards 2019, it has just picked up silver at the Global Organic Masters.

Flying Flamingo Seltzer, €3

Dublin’s Pearse Lyons Brewery & Distillery, best know for its whiskeys, has gotten into the growing seltzer market with the launch of its very own Flying Flamingo hard seltzer. There are two flavours available - Pineapple Punch and Peach Fizz. (5% ABV) 

Teeling Whiskey Highball, €5

Dublin’s Teeling Whiskey joined forces with Mikropolis Cocktails for this tasty whiskey and soda highball with a hint of soured pineapple syrup. The base is Teeling Small Batch which is aged up to six years in ex-bourbon barrels and then finished for six months in rum barrels. Drink it straight from the can or over ice and topped with fresh mint and a pineapple wedge.  (9.4% ABV)

Smirnoff Seltzer, €3

If vodka is your preferred tipple, take the mixer hassle out of things and try Smirnoff’s new seltzers. Available in two flavours, Orange & Grapefruit and Raspberry & Rhubarb, they're made from a mix of Smirnoff No.21 vodka, sparkling water and natural fruit flavours.  ( 4.7% ABV)

Barefoot Wine Seltzer, €2.75

Californian wine brand Barefoot (which has won over 2,000 awards worldwide) recently launched its Wine Seltzer range into Ireland. A blend of sparkling water, white wine and natural fruit flavours, you can choose from Pineapple & Passionfruit or Strawberry & Guava. (4% ABV)

Lillet Rosé, €26

The Frenc aperitif Lillet, which has been around since 1872, is a blend of wine and fruit that pairs well with tonic for a summer spritzer. Light and fruity it clocks in at 17% ABV. It’s available in off licences, including O’Briens which is currently running a promotion with both Lillet Rosé and a Fevertree 500ml Tonic available for €25.

Kopparberg Hard Seltzer, €3.50

Best known for its fruit ciders, Kopparberg has launched a trio of hard seltzers. They have more of a flavour kick than you might expect from a seltzer and come in three fruity flavours, namely Mixed Berries, Black Cherry and Passionfruit. They’re available in Tesco and are rolling out to BWG, Molloys & Next door off-licences. ( 5% ABV)

M&S Aperitivo Spritz, from €3

Good news for fans of the very summery Aperol spritz: M&S has launched its own take on the much-loved cocktail.  It blends a crisp, sparkling wine with fragrant orange bitters, giving a hint of orange and a light herbal flavour. Available in 250ml cans (€3 each) and a 750ml bottle (€7.50). (8% ABV)
