This year Father's Day falls on Sunday 16th June and it's the perfect time to get the family together. What nicer way to show your appreciation than by whipping up a meal that the man himself will love.

Or offering some classic recipes as inspiration if he's the chef in the family! From a classic roast chicken to an irresistible curry - and some lighter options - here are five fab recipes that will work well for Father's Day.

Spare Ribs With Mango Chutney

Ribs make for a tasty dish for a casual get together and this recipe from Sunil Ghai at the renowned Pickle Restaurant on Camden Street, Dublin is ideal. The mango chutney is also a hit with kids so it's a dish the whole family can enjoy.

Irish Beef and Stout Stew

One of the true classic Irish dishes, a stew can be left to cook slowly in the oven, meaning the chef gets to relax in the meantime. This version from Kevin Dundon is full of flavour, and has some Irish stout in there too!

Beef Massaman Curry

This curry recipe from Avoca makes for a healthy alternative to the local take away. It's not short on flavour though - use high-quality beef for the best results. This is one that can be stretched if more guests turn up than intended!

Fish Tacos

A lighter option if a meat dish doesn't appeal. These delicious fish tacos work well with a bottle of crisp white wine. The accompanying guacamole and slaw can be scaled up to expand the dish if you've got lots of people around.

Whole Roast Chicken with Stem Broccoli

It's a timeless Sunday lunch option, so what better way to celebrate Father's Day than with Rob Krawczyk's perfect roast chicken. Leftovers, if there are any, can be used for sandwiches or in a curry for Monday's dinner.
