It seems that the team behind Google Doodles are just as fond of falafel as we are, as today's Doodle highlights the delicious chickpea-based dish.
While there doesn't seem to be a real reason behind the Doodle – aside from the team's obvious love of the dish – the graphic is super cute, featuring a smiley-faced falafel creating a cosy bed of hummus, lettuce and tabbouleh inside a pita bread pocket. Once the nest is complete, the falafel ball and its two friends snuggle up inside, ready for a cosy night's sleep or, more than likely, to be eaten by hungry chickpea-lovers like ourselves. Either way, today's Google Doodle is adorable and we love to see one of our favourite foods celebrated around the world.

According to the Google Doodle homepage, "Today’s Doodle celebrates falafel, the best thing that ever happened to chickpeas—with the possible exception of hummus, of course." Google Doodle further highlights the historic aspect of falafel, outlining how the chickpea balls have been enjoyed for centuries in many different cultures.
While there doesn't seem to be a particular reason behind the doodle other than that chickpea crops in India are currently in high season, there's no denying falafel's popularity here in Ireland. What was once only a vegan or vegetarian staple has become completely mainstream, with most lunch spots offering their own delicious version of falafel. We're particularly fond of a nice falafel wrap or falafel salad, so if you need a new lunch spot, make sure to check out our top five places to get falafel in Dublin. In the meantime, we'll be watching the latest Google Doodle on repeat all day.
