La Fougère wins Best Hotel Restayrant at the 2018 F&W AwardsPaul Sherwood
With the restaurants at many of Ireland’s top hotels becoming destinations in their own right, our judges were overwhelmed with the amount of worthy candidates in this category.
La Fougère, the recently refurbished restaurant at Knockranny House Hotel, impressed with its impeccable food and became the ultimate winner of Hotel Restaurant of the Year at our 2018 FOOD&WINE Awards, in association with Nespresso Professional.
The recent redesign at La Fougère, undertaken by Westport-based interior designer Emma Minish, exudes 1920s glamour and big screen elegance. With pieces designed by local tradesmen, the restaurant ties together the timeless charm of the past with the drama of the Westport scenery.
La Fougère prides itself on using only high quality, local ingredients. The fresh fish found on the menu is caught and landed daily, whilst the beef and lamb used is reared nearby. Even more impressive is that the majority of the fruit and vegetables used in the delicious dishes at La Fougère are grown on site in Knockranny House Hotel’s garden.
The impressive dining at La Fougère is matched by the spectacular scenery of Westport, Co. Mayo. Situated on a secluded hillside, Knockranny House Hotel offers one-of-a-kind views of Croagh Patrick, Clew Bay and the Nephin Mountains. These unparalleled views frame the dining experience at La Fougère, offering a unique way to enjoy your meal.
Headed up by Seamus Commons, La Fougère is without a doubt Ireland’s finest hotel restaurant. Having previously spent three years as head chef at Derry Clarke’s L’Ecrivain (which won Restaurant Bar of the Year at this year’s awards), Commons brings thoughtful options to the dining table. Having won ‘Best Chef in Connaught’ at both the 2011 and 2012 FOOD&WINE Awards, you can rest assured that your dinner is in good hands when Seamus Commons is involved.
Speaking to F&W about the recent win, Seamus commented:
“To be shortlisted in such a competitive category is something, but to take home the award is incredible. We are thrilled to see that the hours of work and dedication, from the kitchen staff to the team on the floor and throughout the hotel, really has such a tremendous impact on our guests. I’m so proud of what we do at La Fougère and of each and every person on the team that helps to makes it happen”
