We were spoiled for choice with the shortlist for our Best for Wine Lovers category, but one nominee in particular stood out to the judging panel for this year’s FOOD&WINE Awards in association with Nespresso Professional.
Whelehans Wines has trumped for the second year in a row thanks to its passionate staff and a unique selection of wines from across the globe.
Set up by David Whelehan at the well-known Silver Tassie in Dublin 18, Whelehans is a wine business driven by an enthusiastic and highly motivated team.
Whelehans is the place to go to find something new - it ships in over 80% of its wines directly from some of the world's most important wineries.
Speaking to F&W about the win, David commented:
"We are all particularly thrilled to have won this highly prestigious award given our focus and dedication to offering a world class wine experience."
Alongside the wine store with its helpful individual tasting notes along the shelves, Whelehans restaurant is also a treat for wine lovers, and after browsing the wine stock you can can enjoy a bottle from their wine store in the restaurant/wine bar for just €8 corkage fee.
Their ‘Blend W’ coffee is freshly roasted in Wicklow by McCabe’s and has been “specially blended for us, blended like a wine.” Utilising the best of local produce, (breads are from Cavistons and cheese and meats are from Sheridans and Cavistons), it’s a welcoming space for a light snack or full-on dinner.
A lot of time and energy is invested by the team in identifying the wineries that Whelehans wants to work with and the exact wines that Whelehans wants to ship, making every trip here an opportunity to discover a new favourite bottle… or two!
