For those of you not following the parade of gigantes y cabezudos through the streets of Pamplona or running with the bulls at San Fermín this July, don't worry, you won't be missing out.
Wines from Spain partners with Ballyvolane House and with The Legal Eagle to bring the spirit of San Fermín alive in the Cork countryside and the heart of Dublin city, respectively.
Over the course of two very special dinners, guests will taste wines from the finest bodegas across the Navarra region, with tasting notes for each wine that is poured, making the evening both informative and delicious in equal measure!
The first wine evening will be in Ballyvolane House in Cork
The Navarra dinner to celebrate San Fermín in Ballyvolane House is on Tuesday 24th July, and wines will be introduced by Ernie Whalley, renowned restaurant critic and wine writer.
Beginning at 7 p.m., the 5-course tasting menu with matching wines will be held on long tables in Ballyvolane’s gorgeous gardens, if the weather is still as glorious as it is now – appropriately Spanish weather! If not, the Navarra dinner will be served on the dining terrace in the barn.
The Ballyvolane House Navarra wine dinner with Wines from Spain will be showcasing a superb selection of wines from DO Navarra, including Chivite Colección 125 Chardonnay 2015, an elegantly intense and full-bodied Chardonnay with tones of hazelnuts, almonds, sweet spices, citrus fruits, apricots, fragrant herbs and certain creamy memories from the barrel.
Tickets to the Navarra dinner at Ballyvolane House are €65 per person to include the 5-course dinner and all wines, with a special offer to include overnight accommodation and breakfast for both the house and the comfortably bohemian and chic glamping in Ballyvolane’s lush gardens.
- 1 night stay at Ballyvolane House with B&B and dinner - based on 2 people sharing €350
- 1 night glamping with B&B and dinner - based on 2 people sharing €280
Living in the Big Smoke? The second dinner is in the Legal Eagle in Dublin city
The Navarra dinner to celebrate San Fermín in The Legal Eagle is on Friday 27th July, led by expert wine writer, John Wilson.
Beginning at 7 p.m., this will be a menu in Spanish tapas style, delivered in the inimitable nose to tail, root to leaf tradition of The Legal Eagle, with tickets costing €45.
Among the selection of wines at The Legal Eagle Navarra dinner with Wines from Spain is Inurrieta Sauvignon Blanc Orchidea, a Sauvignon Blanc with a uniquely attractive blend of aromas combining tropical fruit with citrus and vegetal notes – a complex blend of pineapple, passion fruit, grapefruit and boxwood – reinforced by a tremendously creamy mouthfeel.
So, what's so special about the Navarra wine region?
Located in northern Spain, close to the Pyrenees, wine has been produced in the unique wine region of Navarra since Roman times. Stretching 100 kilometres from the valleys of Pamplona to the plains of the Ebro river, the diversity of the climate and landscape of the DO help to produce a variety of diverse and different styles of wine.
Pre-booking is required and places can be booked directly with each venue.
