At the 2019 FOOD AND WINE Awards in association with Rémy Martin, Ballymore Inn in County Kildare was named Classic of the Year.
Another one of our new awards for this year's 2019 FOOD AND WINE Awards in associaiton with Rémy Martin was Classic of the Year. This award was created to honour longstanding restaurants from around the country that have devoted visitors that continuously return for a great experience and service, delicious food and a unique atmosphere.
The Classic of the Year was given to The Ballymore Inn in Kildare, which has been open for nearly 20 years. Owned by Barry and Georgina O'Sullivan, The Ballymore in serves up a delicious menu of carefully selected ingredients prepared in a unique and imaginative way. The duo grow their own seasonal fruit and vegetables onsite, as well as collaborating with some of the country's best suppliers to ensure that each guest enjoys a fantastic meal.
The Ballymore Inn beat off stiff competition to win this award this year, with the judges noting that the restaurant's atmosphere and service were unique to the location. To find out more about this big win, we spoke to Georgina O'Sullivan after the ceremony to get her thoughts.
Georgina O'Sullivan On The Ballymore Inn's Win
"We were absolutely thrilled to win such a prestigious award. A FOOD AND WINE award is what we all aspire to. It's so nice to be in such good company, side by side with all the other wonderful winners. What we think has helped The Ballymore Inn to work so well for so long is that we keep in mind what you, our guests, would like to eat. We create food that will please you, comfort you, nourish you.
The most important thing we have learned over the years is that people are the most important, our staff, our suppliers, our customers, it has to work for everyone or it works for nobody. Over the next while, you can expect to see more of the same from us hopefully. We had a nice compliment just today from a lady who described The Ballymore Inn as her 'happy place', so we want to do more of that!"
