Head Chef Sean Smith keeps seafood at the core of his menus at The Cliff Townhouse on St Stephen’s Green, one of Dublin’s much-loved restaurants.

Hailing from Donegal, head chef Sean Smith leads his team in focusing on freshness and consistency. With a lightness of hand in cooking and seasoning, and a sophisticated palate, his menus are lovely, simple, some classics, some sustainable fish, and something a little different.

The restaurant itself at Cliff Townhouse is really special. It’s a beautiful room, a long space with parquet floors with a uniquely grand, marble-topped Oyster & Champagne Bar at one end and tall Georgian windows overlooking the Green at the other. We love this room for a date night, Sunday lunch with family and, of course, weddings are incredible in this setting.

Whether it’s for a quick breakfast with a pot of aromatic coffee, a few sparklingly fresh oysters at the pure theatre of the Oyster Bar with a creamy pint, or the drama of a shared seafood platter with all the trimmings and a bottle of bubbly, superb black sole on the bone with nut brown butter or a tender piece of poached cod, simply dressed, Cliff Townhouse is the place for perfect fish, perfectly done.

Sunday Lunch

It might not be the obvious spot for a Sunday lunch, but actually, it is, and a fantastic offering at that! It is such a relaxing space with lovely menus to boot, and an excellent Sunday roast served on an old-school trolley, which adds a little touch of theatre to proceedings.

Sunday lunch menus always feature a selection of firmly comforting favourites from seafood cocktails to risottos, housemade pâtés or parfaits to fresh fish from the plancha or grill and, of course, the Sunday roast, served with all the trimmings. Two-course Sunday lunch is served from 12 midday until 4 pm and costs €35 with three courses for €40.

Valentine’s Day

Throughout the month of February, the Oyster Bar at Cliff Townhouse and its cosy downstairs neighbour Urchin Bar will be serving a delicious ‘Share the Love’ Seafood Platter and donating €5 from each platter sold to Focus Ireland, helping people who are homeless or are at risk of losing their homes across Ireland.

Overflowing with fresh crab claws, native oysters, lobster and mussels with all the trimmings, the ‘Share the Love’ platter is available to order not just on Valentine’s Day but throughout the month of February for just €59. And it wouldn’t be Valentine’s without some bubbles so each ‘Share the Love’ Seafood Platter will also be served with two glasses of chilled bubbly.

The platter is available every day at the Cliff Townhouse Oyster Bar from 12-2.30pm and from 5pm to close, and in Urchin Bar from Monday to Thursday from 5pm and Friday and Saturday from 12 noon.
