4 classic cocktails to get you through lockdown 3.0

Bring the bar to you with these simple cocktails to sip on whilst you stay at home.

Our two-step lockdown survival guide involves taking a deep breath and making one of these delicious cocktails (stat!).

Well, here we are again...in yet another lockdown.

Christmas this year was strange as it was but now as we enter the third lockdown, things look very different, as most activities you'd enjoy over the Christmas break like brunching with friends, visiting family or heading to the pub are off the table.

As the coronavirus chaos continues, the safest thing you can do is stay at home unless you need to go to work or undertake an essential trip for food, medicine or go out for daily exercise. However, New Year's Eve is just around the corner and it comes as a welcome break for everyone. In order to enjoy that New Year's feeling, now is the time treat yourself to a cocktail that you can enjoy on your sofa in your pyjamas.

So in that spirit (sorry), we reached out to bar manager at The Shelbourne, Sean McGoldrick and asked him to share with us some of his favourite winter warmer cocktails that are a breeze to whip up at home.

And oh, did he deliver...

New York Sour

  • 40ml Red Breast
  • 15ml Maple Syrup
  • 30ml Lemon
  • 20ml Egg white
  • 20ml Red Wine
  • Crushed Malteser rim

  1. Apply Malteser rim to rocks glass (a little lemon juice around the rim will help it to stick)
  2. Mix Red Breast, Maple Syrup, lemon, egg white, shake all together with ice. Dry Shake without ice. Strain over a rocks glass full with ice. Slowly add red wine to the top.

A White Christmas Brandy Alexander

  • 30ml Cream
  • 30 ml Crème de cacao
  • 30ml Hennessy
  • For a little twist I would sprinkle crumbled flake on top

  1. Shake all ingredients with ice and fine strain into a chilled coup and dust with flake on top.

Old Fashioned

  • 50ml Green Spot Whiskey
  • 10ml Port
  • 5ml Agave syrup
  • 3 dash of Angostura Bitters
  • Orange Peel for Garnish.
  • Large ice cube
  • Optional: 2 marshmallows

  1. Mix agave, port and Angostura bitters first to mixing container. Add Green spot then ice and mix for about 15 seconds.
  2. Strain into rock glass. Add Large ice cube and twist orange on top to release the oils, and if you want to add a Christmassy finishing touch, lightly toast two marshmallows as a garnish.

The Grasshopper with an Oreo topping

  • 25ml crème de menthe
  • 25ml white crème de cacao
  • 25ml Baileys Liqueur
  • Crumbled oreo biscuit

  1. Shake all ingredients together and fine strain into a gilled coup. Sprinkle crumbled Oreo on top.
