If you're planning a cocktail hour this weekend, why not go back to the classics for inspiration.
All you need are some top-quality ingredients - and a bit of expert advice on how to make and serve them. Here are four classic recipes, from a Bloody Mary to a Whiskey Sour, courtesy of Urchin at Cliff Townhouse to try this weekend.
Bloody Mary
Ingredients:
- 50ml Absolute Vodka
- 25ml lemon juice
- 3 dash celery bitters
- 4 dash Tabasco (adjust spiciness as required)
- A pinch of salt
- A pinch of black pepper
Method:
- Put all the ingredients into a mixing glass, add cubed ice and stir for two minutes until properly mixed
- Pour into a high ball glass and garnish with a celery stalk.

Moscow Mule
Ingredients:
- 50ml Kettle One vodka
- 25ml lime juice
- Top up with Thomas Henry Ginger Beer
Method:
- Put all the ingredients into a mule cup or whiskey tumbler, add cubed ice and mix using a bar spoon.
- Add the ginger beer and top with crushed ice.
- Garnish with some lime.
Whiskey Sour
Ingredients:
- 50ml DWD whiskey
- 25ml lemon juice
- 25ml sugar syrup
- 30ml egg white
Method:
- Put all the ingredients in a shaker. Dry shake first, then add ice and shake again.
- Fine strain into a sour glass and garnish with lemon peel and cherry.

Negroni
Ingredients:
- 30ml Campari,
- 20ml Bombay Saphire gin
- 20ml Antica Formula Vermouth
Method:
- Put all the ingredients in mixing glass, add ice and stir for 90 seconds.
- Serve over ice in a whiskey tumbler and garnish with orange peel.
