To celebrate the new summer menu at Takashi Miyazaki's Ichigo Ichie restaurant in Cork, we have an exclusive competition for dinner for two at the chef's counter with sake up for grabs.
Ichigo Ichie in Cork City has been gaining rave reviews since it opened, with the restaurant awarded its first Michelin star in September of last year. With enticing Instagram photos highlighting the restaurant's beautiful food, every dish created by Takashi looks as good as it tastes.
Celebrating summer, Takashi recently unveiled a new menu that highlights the bright, fresh flavours of the season. We spoke to Takashi to find out more about the delicious dishes that two of our lucky readers will get to enjoy and he told us that his key focus is great Irish ingredients cooked with a Japanese twist.
"Vegetables are a big focus this season. One includes West Cork tomatoes in a dish with tempura courgette flowers, which a star dish for me. The tomatoes are marinated in sake syrup, which makes them come up very fruity, and the organic Kilbrack farm courgette flowers are stuffed with Dublin bay prawns and Toonsbridge mozzarella. It really highlights summer vegetables.
Another key dish is our Achill Island lamb, which is rolled in a strawberry powder made from Bushby strawberries from Rosscarbery, and then grilled. We garnish it with sweetbreads and a sauce of St Tola goat's cheese with koji, which is made from malted and fermented rice."
The Chef's Counter
Included in this amazing prize, as well as a delicious multi-course dinner, is the chance to sit at the Miyabi counter or chef's counter, where you will be able to watch Takashi work and interact with him throughout the meal. Guests will also be treated to Kozaemon Tokubetsu Junmai Miyama sake alongside their meal, which is a rich and full-bodied with a generous note of umami.
