Where is open for dinner on St Stephen's Day

Some top options if you want to head out for a meal on December 26th.

Most restaurants are closed for a few days around Christmas, but for those of us who have had enough turkey sandwiches, some eateries reopen on St Stephen’s Day for lunch or dinner.

If you're thinking of leaving the leftovers behind and heading out for a meal, here are some of the best options available on December 26th.

The Saddle Room at The Shelbourne

The Shelbourne Hotel, Dublin is always a popular choice over the festive season and the Saddle Room restaurant is open for both lunch and dinner on St Stephen’s Day. The menu, created by executive Head Chef Garry Hughes and his team, features some of the best Irish produce and classic dishes such as Beef Wellington and a seafood platter.

The Donnybrook Gastropub

If you’re looking for casual bites, The Donnybrook Gastropub in Dublin 4 will be open from 12pm until late on St Stephen’s Day. It will be serving a new all-day menu, which includes small plates to share, pizzas, burgers, fish of the day and dry-aged ribeye steak.

Cleaver East

In Temple Bar, Dublin, Cleaver East is also open from 5.30pm on St Stephen’s Day. The Asian fusion menu features contemporary dishes including slow cooked beef shortribs, jumbo chicken wings and organic salmon on the bone. There’s also an extensive cocktail menu too.

If you have had enough of the turkey, stuffing and cranberry sauce, head to one of the Jaipur group’s restaurants for a creative twist on Indian dishes. Jaipur in both Malahide and Dalkey along with Chakra in Greystones will be open for dinner on December 26th. The usual à la carte menu will be on offer, alongside a special Christmas menu.

Farmer Browns

Farmer Browns in Clonskeagh, Dublin 6, and Kilternan, Dublin 18, will be open for lunch and dinner on Stephen’s Day. Choose from appetisers including wings, nachos, tacos, and classic main dishes such as fish and chips, burgers, salads, and a choice of steaks from the grill.

Carton House

Carton House in Kildare will serve food in its three dining venues on St Stephen's Day. The Carriage House and Kitchen Bar will be open from midday to 9pm for some Christmas-free comfort food, such as homemade fish pie or traditional fish and chips, while the Linden Tree Restaurant will open for dinner from 7pm (Booking is essential for guests and visitors).

The Hardiman Galway

Formerly known as the Hotel Meyrick on Galway’s Eyre Square, The Hardiman has a number of options available on Stephen's Day. The Gaslight Brasserie will be serving a festive lunch menu from 2pm to 5pm and both a set menu and festive à la carte menu from 5pm, while there will be bar food in The Oyster Bar during the day, as well as a new cocktail menu from 2pm.
