We firmly believe that there is nothing better than a good Christmas movie. We love the cheese, the cringe and the eventual heartwarming scene at the end of the movie that always gets us a bit teary eyed.
With that in mind we decided to rewatch our favourite Christmas movies to see which ones had the best scenes about food. Take a look at the list below to see if we included your favourites:
Elf (2003)
Easily our favourite Christmas movie on this list, Elf is a classic at this point. While there are so many amazing moments in the movie, the funniest by far is when Buddy the Elf (Will Ferrell) makes his family his famous spaghetti for breakfast.
They don’t really seem too keen on the prospect (even we’re not too sure that we could get behind spaghetti with maple syrup!), so after they leave for work, Buddy sits down to feast on his sweet, candy-filled mess of a breakfast. This scene is pure gold and definitely satisfies the four elf food groups: candy, candy canes, candy corn and syrup.
National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation (1989)
Chevy Chase was at his comedic peak in this movie, with the Griswold’s getting up to some particularly festive hijinks in Christmas Vacation.
Between the bickering in-laws, desire to please literally every member of the family and the stress over the Christmas dinner, we feel that the Griswolds really represent everyone’s experience at Christmas time. Although, we can definitely say that we’ve never overcooked a turkey as badly as they did!
The Muppet Christmas Carol (1990)
While any version of Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol is sure to give you a warm, Christmassy feeling, this one is by far our favourite. Between the songs, Waldorf and Statler's humour and Kermit-style Tiny Tim's miraculous recovery that has us sobbing every time we watch the movie, we come back to The Muppet Christmas Carol every year.
Plus, Michael Caine is in this movie, need we say more?
The Santa Clause (1994)
The Santa Clause, the classic '90s Christmas caper starring Tim Allen, was the perfect balance of the cynical and magical, which is just how we like our Christmas movies. Once you get over the slightly terrifying way Tim Allen became Father Christmas, the movie is totally endearing.
When an exhausted Santa arrives back to the North Pole after his first night on the job, Judy the elf fixes him up a cup of steaming cocoa which she says took her 1,200 years to get right. We’ll take ten please, Judy!
Home Alone (1990)
Another '90s classic, Home Alone has had a definite impact of Christmas culture; is it really the festive season if you don’t watch Macaulay Culkin go head-to-head with a couple of burglars?
While Macaulay makes a fair go at taking out the bad guys, there’s one scene that always gives us a giggle: when little Kevin McAllister gets his “lovely cheese pizza” just for himself, we always shout “Keep the change, ya filthy animal!” along with the television!
Home Alone 2 (1992)
Obviously, we had to give Macaulay Culkin another mention on this list! Aside from Donald Trump making a quick appearance, Kevin’s second festive outing is just as hilarious as the first.
While there are a lot of great moments in this movie, the best food one is easily when Kevin has the butler at the Plaza Hotel make him a GIANT ice cream sundae.
Bonus: It's a Wonderful Life (1946)
Okay, so we know this isn't food-related, but is there any Christmas movie that's both as heartbreaking and heart-warming as It's a Wonderful Life? This black and white movie has firmly cemented itself as THE Christmas movie and we love it watching it every year.
