Bushmills Black Bush Old Fashioned

Bushmills Black Bush Old Fashioned

Today is Irish Whiskey Day, so it only seems right to celebrate with a cocktail. Bushmills Irish Whiskey has given us a Black Bush gift pack to give away to one of our lucky readers, plus we have an easy recipe for a Black Bush Old Fashioned cocktail below.

Did you know the word “whiskey” translates to “uisce beatha” in Irish, which means “water of life”? Whiskey is embedded deep in our island’s history with the oldest distillery in the country, The Old Bushmills Distillery on the North Coast, having first been granted its licence to distil back in 1608. Centuries later, Irish whiskey remains a matter of pride for Ireland with passion, great care and supreme craftsmanship being poured into every bottle.

Sunday, March 3rd marks Irish Whiskey Day and what better way to celebrate than to make yourself an Old Fashioned cocktail. The Old Fashioned is a well-loved, classic cocktail and is perfect with Irish Whiskey. The Angostura bitters and hint of orange really draw out the robust flavours of dried fruits and nuts in the Black Bush whiskey with every sip. Try out the recipe below.

Black Bush Old Fashioned

Ingredients:

  • 50ml Black Bush Irish Whiskey
  • 1 teaspoon of demerara sugar syrup
  • 2 dashes of Angostura bitters
  • Orange peel
  • Ice

Method:

  1. In a mixing glass, slowly stir the Black Bush, sugar syrup and Angostura bitters over ice until chilled. Strain over fresh ice in a chilled rocks glass and garnish with the orange peel.

TIP: To make the sugar syrup, simmer 1 cup of unrefined demerara sugar with 1 cup of water until the sugar is fully dissolved. Allow to cool and decant into a glass bottle.
