The Lanesborough Hotel, London

The Lanesborough Hotel, London

It's on the doorstep of Buckingham Palace, has celeb guests like Leo DiCaprio and is home to the most expensive hotel suite in London. Here's how we spent 24 luxurious hours in The Lanesborough Hotel

Old school opulence with decadent service; London institution The Lanesborough Hotel is a definite Wish List destination. Constantly scooping top awards like England's Leading Luxury Hotel 2018 and Best Hotel in Europe (in the 2016 US News & World Report), it is also home to the most opulent suite in all of the UK. The Royal Suite not only has seven bedrooms decorated in the grandest, most decadent Regency style, it also comes with full use of the hotel's Roll's Royce, a dining room that seats 12, a 24-hour private butler (that's standard at this hotel, BTW) and a price tag that is only available on enquiry, but rumoured to be in the arena of €30k per night.

Seeing, as they say, is believing so Irish Tatler editor Shauna O'Halloran took a short trip over the water to spend 24 hours at The Lanesborough, spotted Kate and William on State business at Hyde Park Corner, and this is her recommendation on how to spend 24 hours in the most exclusive hotel in London:

Experience...

The Living Room in a Suite at The Lanesborough

...round-the-clock butler service, regardless of what room or suite you have booked. Think complimentary pressing of your dinner dress, a refill of your Champagne bucket, help with your high-tech curtains and other life challenges.

The Withdrawing Room

...the hotel’s nooks and crannies. A favourite of ours was the elegant Withdrawing Room, sumptuously decorated with gilded ceilings. Just a casual place (ahem) for an afternoon spot of tea.

Drink...

Cocktails at The Library Bar

Cocktails at The Library Bar

...at über-desirable cocktail hotspot, The Library Bar and its so-called Liquid Museum of spirits. Sample cognacs from the 18th century or taste an expertly mixed cocktail from one of London’s most awarded bartending teams.

Venture...

Old World Grandeur

Old World Grandeur

...outside your room, if you can tear yourself away. Although that might be hard thanks to the old world grandeur meets 21st century charm that sees regal décor teamed with extras like hidden flatscreen TVs (behind what look like antique oil paintings) and charging stations in mahogany bureaus. As you’re just a stone’s throw from Regent Street and overlooking Hyde Park, however, you should try to leave, just the once.

Eat...

Celeste at The Lanesborough

...extremely well at the Michelin-starred Céleste in all its domed roof glory. Don’t be distracted by the spectacular chandeliers or impressive art on the walls, pay more attention to the exquisite, hybrid British-European flavours cooked up by Chef Eric Frechon and Executive Chef Florian Favario – who, incidentally, hold five Michelin stars between them.
